Hugh Simon
Chief Executive

Hugh Simon, Chief Executive, established Hamon Investment Group in 1989. Hugh has been responsible for building Hamon’s institutional client base with leading groups. Hugh has managed top performing relative and absolute return funds, and built up an experienced team of fund management professionals to help manage these assets.

Over the last few years, Hugh has focused Hamon’s fund management efforts on increasing its specialization Greater China and Asian emerging markets as well as broadening the firm’s institutional relationships.

Formerly the Managing Director and President respectively of Lazard’s Hong Kong and Japan offices and a director of Lazard Investors in London, Hugh was responsible for establishing Lazard’s offices in the Far East and was in charge of overall investment and marketing for the Asian region. Before joining Lazard in 1984, he worked for Schroders in London, Australia and Hong Kong for five years. He has over 30 years of experience in Asian regional investments.

Raymond Chan
Chief Investment Officer

Raymond’s experience in portfolio management for Greater China and the Asian regional markets spans more than two decades. After starting his career as a Portfolio Manager with LGT Asset Management in 1994, Raymond joined Hamon in 1999 managing Hamon flagship Asian Market Leaders Fund and Dreyfus Greater China Fund. He augmented his management skills and investment experience in his subsequent role as Investment Director at Amundi for eight years, where he managed their flagship Greater China and Asian portfolios. Hamon benefitted from this wealth of experience when Raymond returned to the company in May 2011.

Raymond has vast experience in managing and servicing global institutional investors, including HKMA, ADIA, Bank of China, CIBC etc. in the last 25 years. Raymond’s experience is supplemented by his educational accomplishments. He obtained a Bachelor Degree of Business Administration from the University of Hong Kong and an MBA in International Finance and Banking from the University of Birmingham in UK.

Neil Samir Mascarenhas, CFA
Fund Manager

Neil is a Fund Manager at Hamon and is responsible for equity research and idea generation in Asia ex-Japan market, as well as fixed income (including Green bonds) in Asia. Neil is responsible for screening, monitoring and reviewing of stock and portfolio exposures against ESG criteria, oversees our proxy voting activities with rationale based on our internal proxy voting guidelines. With corporate and thematic engagement as part of research and stewardship activities, Neil contributes sustainability insights and issues to our investment committee.

Neil has over 13 years of experience in the financial markets. Before joining Hamon, Neil worked for 5 years as a Senior Investment Analyst at SBI Life Insurance Co. Ltd., a joint venture between BNP Paribas and the State Bank of India and one of India’s largest private life insurance companies. Prior to that, Neil was an Analyst with J.P. Morgan India Services and spent a year with an environmentalist supported by the World Bank on water and sanitation awareness in India. Neil graduated from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai in 2001 with a B.A. in Economics and Statistics. He was subsequently awarded an M.A. in Economics from University of Mumbai and an M.B.A. from the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst.

Ming Lam, CFA
Research Analyst and Trader

Ming Lam is a Research Analyst, responsible for equity research and idea generation in the Asian markets, including analysis of corporate performance on ESG factors and preparing research to support analysis of risk management performance. Ming is also responsible for screening, monitoring and reviewing of stock and portfolio exposures against ESG criteria; With our proprietary analysis, he analyzes the ESG metrics and HamonESG scorecard, combining the qualitative and quantitative inputs towards portfolio performance. Ming also contributes to tools and analytics development for enhancing ESG integration.

Ming has over 7 years of experience in the financial markets. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst.
